Tracery is available only to people aged 18 or over who are located in the United Kingdom.

Permitted purposes

  • Professional due diligence, such as checking a business contact’s public company appointments
  • Verifying the public identity of someone you are about to deal with, for example to avoid scams
  • Journalism, academic research and fact-checking
  • Checking where an image appears online, finding the original source, or spotting misuse of your own photos

Prohibited uses

  • Stalking, harassment, intimidation, doxxing or locating any person (offences under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and related law)
  • Identifying an unknown person from a photograph
  • Employment, tenancy, credit or insurance screening — Tracery is not a consumer reporting or vetting service
  • Discrimination, or inferring sensitive characteristics about anyone
  • Building profiles of children, or searching for anyone you believe to be under 18
  • Automated or bulk querying, scraping Tracery, or circumventing rate limits or regional restrictions (including by VPN)
  • Republishing results in a way that breaches data protection, defamation or privacy law

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for having a lawful basis for any use you make of results and for verifying them at the original source. Results may be wrong or relate to a different person. Tracery does not confirm identity.

Enforcement

We may block access, delete accounts and, where we believe someone is at risk, cooperate with the police. Report misuse through the report form.
